Khulna City:(খুলনা) is the divisional city in Bangladesh. Khulna City is the third largest city after Dhaka City and Chittagong City. It is situated on the south-western region of this country. It is an old river port situated beside the Rupsha River. The city as well as the district is named after a shrine called Khullaneswari temple. This is located on the bank of the river Bhairab. It is about one and a half kilometers away from Khulna city.
Khulna Municipal Council was founded on 12th December 1884. After that it promoted to a municipal corporation in 1984. It has confirmed a city corporation in 1990. Khulna City Corporation is a self-ruling corporation. It ran by a nominated and selected Mayor. There are thirteen wards in this City Corporation area.
Khulna City Corporation is very important for business industries. Khulna Hardboard Mills Ltd, Khulna Newsprint Mills Ltd, Khulna Textile Mills Ltd etc. are located into this city. Khulna City has many important educational institutions. Govt. Brajalal College is the ancient institution of higher education. The only public University of politics free Khulna University is situated here. There is an engineering university and a medical college also located into this city. Except these there are many other educational institutes are established.
Khulna City is a city of tourism. Rupsha Bridge is one of the attractive places for recreation. Other places to visit are Karamjol, Hiran point and Katka. People who want to visit Sundarban they have stay here. There are many hotel and motels are offering international quality facilities to the travelers.
Rickshaw is the most accepted public transportation in Khulna City. People also use baby taxi and Tuktuk. To reach Khulna City there are many bus services are available from anywhere the country. People can also travel to Khulna by train and air.
