Grameenphone is the largest mobile operator in Bangladesh. Grameenphone takes many steps for this customer several times, and also for social welfare. Recently Grameenphone wish to bring all customers under a single insurance scheme, which covering death, accidents, health and hospital support. It’s also planning to get tied with the Bangladesh Govt.’s e-education services.
Head of Telenor Asia, Sigve Brekke said in an interview “We signed two partnership deals with a local and a global insurance company in Bangladesh”. When a customer gives a certain amount he/she will get insurance facilities.
We discuss with the Bangladesh government about how can improved e-education services in Bangladesh so that anyone can get access to school, college and universities easily.
We think that will be a big opportunity to providing information such as harvest and crop prices to farmers.
Grameenphone want that, its customers to have transactional services and banking relations for lending and transferring money and paying bills using their mobile phone. But we do not competing with bank. We do not deal with existing banks customers. We just bring those who don’t have banking relations under our scheme.
Sigve Brekke said the telecom policy in Bangladesh is sixteen years old and it doesn’t draw out on the internet. So it need new policy to made more investment in future and this is necessary for Digital Bangladesh.
At Present Grameenphone has 52 million active user, 20% of them use internet. Grameenphone wants to raise his internet user and that will 80% by the end of 2017.
