A.K.Fazlul Huq was a great public leader and statesman of Bengal. Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq is known as Hak Saheb or Sher-e-Bangla. A.K.Fazlul Huq played a dynamic role in Bangladeshi politics.
A.K.Fazlul Huq was born on 26th October in 1973 at Saturia of Bakerganj district near the Barisal district. A.K.Fazlul Huq was born at his maternal uncle’s house. His parent’s names are Muhammad Wazid and Saidunnissa Khatun.
A.K.Fazlul Huq was the only son of them. His father was a famous criminal and civil lawyer of the Barisal Bar. A.K.Fazlul Huq’s grandfather Kazi Akram Ali was a high-quality Persian and Arabic scholar and a famous muktear of Barisal region on that time.
From Barisal Zilla School A.K.Fazlul Huq passed the entrance exam in 1890. After that in 1892 he took FA examination. Then A.K.Fazlul Huq achieved the BA certificate in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics from Presidency College. At last in 1896 A.K.Fazlul Huq gained MA degree in Mathematics from University of Calcutta.
Fazlul Huq started legal practice after achieving the BL degree in 1897. After his father’s death he started legal practice at Barisal Bar. During the period of 1903 to 1904 he worked in Raj Chandra College as a lecturer. A.K.Fazlul Huq joined government service as a Deputy Magistrate in 1906.
In 1935 Mayor of Calcutta, during 1937 to 1943 A.K.Fazlul Huq was the Chief Minister of unbroken Bengal, in 1955 was the Home Minister of Pakistan and during 1956 to 1958 Governor of East Pakistan.
A.K.Fazlul Huq gave a new way to East Pakistan politics in 1952. A.K.Fazlul Huq founded the Sramik-Krishak Dal. A.K.Fazlul Huq became the chief minister of East Bengal after the election of 1954.
After the elections of 1954, on 27th April A.K.Fazlul Huq great leader died in 1962. A.K.Fazlul Huq was actually a tiger in sprit and bravery. His life is an attractive story of the political effort for the interests of the Muslims of this sub-continent.
On the behalf of respect Bangladesh Government has built Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College, Sher-e-Bangla Mirpur Stadium and Sher-e-Bangla Nagor. Every year people remember him with great respect.
